What is OPG/RVG?

An OPG (Orthopantomogram) or RVG (radiovisiography) X-ray provides a panoramic view of the entire mouth, including the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. Here are some details about each:

OPG (Orthopantomogram):
A panoramic X-ray that captures a wide view of the upper and lower jaws, including all the teeth in a single image. It is useful for assessing the overall dental and skeletal structure, detecting abnormalities, and planning treatments such as orthodontics, dental implants, and oral surgery. Patients stand or sit still while the X-ray machine rotates around their heads, capturing the panoramic image.

RVG (Radiovisiography):
Also known as digital intraoral radiography, it captures digital X-ray images of individual teeth or specific areas of the mouth. Offers high-resolution images with minimal radiation exposure compared to traditional film X-rays. Provides real-time images that can be viewed instantly on a computer monitor, allowing for immediate diagnosis and treatment planning. Used for detecting cavities, evaluating the health of the tooth roots and surrounding bone, and assessing the fit of dental restorations like crowns and fillings.

Both OPG and RVG X-rays are valuable diagnostic tools used by dentists to assess dental health, diagnose oral conditions, and plan appropriate treatments for patients. They play a crucial role in providing comprehensive dental care and ensuring optimal oral health outcomes.
